Bariatric Team

The Bariatric Center at Min-Sheng Hospital is lead by Professor Lee Wei-Jei, one of the foremost specialists in laparoscopic surgery in Asia (click here to see Pr. Lee’s profile).

A successful outcome does not rest only on the skills of the surgeon; it is a cooperative effort and the Bariatic Center has assembled a team of specialists who work together throughout the entire process. With more than 4,000 successful cases handled, the team has acquired a wealth of experience and expertise.

Besides surgeons, the team is also made of:

Case managers: They provide ongoing support and expertise through comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and general evaluation of individual patient needs, to enhance the quality of patient management and satisfaction. The case manager is accountable for the care, coordination, and discharge planning of the patient. Since patients undergoing bariatric surgery for metabolic reasons now account for 25% of all cases, the Bariatric Center has case managers specializing and caring exclusively for this type of patients. The case manager also remains the principal point of contact for the patient after discharge.

Dieticians: They will educate you about your diet before and after surgery. Dieticians will inform you about what to eat, how much to eat, how often to eat, and…how to eat. Bariatric surgery works best when the patient adheres to some dietary rules, and adopt life style changes.

Nurses: Bariatric patients whether local or foreign, stay in the single room ward which also happens to be Min-Sheng’s international ward; considering the high volume of bariatric patients treated at Min-Sheng, the nurses on that ward are particularly familiar with the care of this type of patients.

Psychologists: They will assess the reasons that led you to consider bariatric surgery, and determine your psychological readiness for the life-long changes you can expect after bariatric surgery.
